Final Thoughts
Being that we find ourselves in the midst of winter, there is only one thing you should be considering, and that is attending NETWAR 18.0! There is nothing quite like being inside (and out of the weather) at a large LAN party, fragging others (or in some cases, being fragged).

I hope to see you all at the event, it is going to be a good one.  If you are not there, you better have a good reason!
In all seriousness, if there is anything about the event that is keeping you from attending, please let us know.  We welcome your feedback!

5. Installed all games you wish to play.
6. Patched all games you installed to their latest version

--- Quick Tips ---

Q: Why are none of the game servers showing up under LAN servers in the game?
A: Multiple reasons:
1) You have the Windows firewall or third party software firewall running that is blocking the requests.
2) The game you are running is not updated to the latest version equal to the servers.
3) There is a filter setup in the LAN browser, turn all filters to All (Very common in Call of Duty)

Q: Is there an easy way to see every game server running at the LAN?
A: Yes! We highly recommend using HLSW. Just choose Offline mode when you run the software, choose LAN server list under Server list and it will display every game server running on the network and status about the servers. www.hlsw.net

3) This is not a new rule, but you are not allowed to bring outside food and drink into the venue.
4) Do not enter the venue before 7:00pm on Friday

What we provide you at the event:

Tournament Games:
Call of Duty 4 - 5 vs. 5
Counter-Strike: Source - 5 vs. 5

Guitar Hero World Tour

Please be aware that tournament participation is completely OPTIONAL, you can choose which tournaments you want to play in or you can choose not to play in any tournaments. We cater for both the competitive gamer and the hobbyist gamer who just enjoys playing his favorite games with many other gamers just for fun while winning big door prizes. With so many gamers at the event you will easily be able to find someone else who enjoys playing the games you do.

If you wish to participate in tournaments while at the event but you are not part of any team, you can easily join a PUG (Pick-Up Game) team or join a shorthanded team. We will help you with this during registration for the tournament at the event.

--- Suggested Game Period ---

This will be a period of time listed on the schedule where we select one game and urge everyone to play this game on the many game servers that we will have running during that time. The purpose of this is to get as many players at the event playing the same game at the same time. It is not required that you play the suggested game, as the name states, it is only suggested. This is not a tournament; you can join and quit the game at any time.

--Prizes--

To make the prize distribution fair and make the tournament atmosphere less tense, we have decided to shift all prizes to raffle only. This will allow anyone to win something no matter what skill level you have as well as bring the fun back into the tournaments. Tournament winners will be awarded with a trophy, some prize or swag and bragging rights. Then you can win large prizes in the raffle.

It will be a period of time listed on the schedule where we select one game and urge everyone to play this game on the many public servers that we will have up during that time. This is not a tournament, you can join and quit the game at any time.

Please review the event schedule for more information on the games selected.

Even if it is not your mess, please do your part and clean it up. If there are any spills, please inform us immediately so that we may have them cleaned up.

It is inevitable, there will always be some cords running across the floor.
We try our hardest to cover them, but for your safety and the safety of our cords :) PLEASE try and avoid stepping on our cord runs when walking down pathways.

Please park in the large south parking lot. When you are loading/unloading your computer you may park next to the door to enter the building. NETWAR has become a developer for ALP
posted by Curium on January 23, 2006 at 3:23 pm
Well this is kind of old news, but I forgot to do a post for it. I have become the lead developer for Autonomous LAN Party(ALP) back in November of last year, after the original developers (Nerdclub Programming Team: Xenophobia, Shadow, and Spam) abandoned the project over a year ago. ALP is the intranet software that we used to help run our LAN parties and tournaments ever since NETWAR 1.0. I and two other developers from Australia have worked very hard on ALP, and have released some new versions with over 150 bug fixes and new features.

I am also working on another open source project for the better of the LAN party community. This program will make it easier to start and setup gaming servers, and will also automate match play for tournaments on many different games(eg. Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2, Quake 4, CS, CS:S, etc.). I am hoping to have a complete working version by NETWAR XI and then will release it to the public after that.

NETWAR 8.0 Success
posted by Curium on May 25, 2005 at 1:20 pm
NETWAR 8.0 was another great LAN, thank you all who attended. I was amazed by how many people stayed up for the whole event. I got 2 hours of sleep then I was back for some more lanning. Details and registration for our next event will be posted soon. Pictures of NETWAR 8.0 are now up in event pictures. During the missile war I turned the lens exposure time way down to try stop the people from streaking, but I forgot to set this setting back after it was over. So most of the pictures of the event are really really dark, sorry about that.
